Fetovaia beach, one of the most popular and photographed beaches on Elba, is set in a magnificent natural setting. The beach, of fine white granite sand, is closed off to the south by the spectacular Fetovaia promontory, protecting it from westerly winds. Behind the village Mount Cenno rises to the slopes of Mount Capanne, this protects the beach from northerly winds and creates a micro-climate which is mild even in the winter. The bay is open to the Scirocco (south-east) wind and this is the only wind that on stormy days can disturb the placid atmosphere of the sea shore. A crystal clear green sea is the special feature of this bay: the breezes of the Maestrale (north-west) wind allows a change of the water in the bay, which has at one end granite rocks and at the other the ancient metamorphic rocks of the peninsula. The Fetovaia promontory, covered with Mediterranean vegetation, stretches out into the sea, and on a calm day it is an ideal place for a pedal boat excursion. Because of its beauty this beach is today one of the most popular on the island, there are good beach facilities. Unfortunately this popularity is to the detriment of some important plants, such as the sea lily, only found in small groups at the margins of the beach. In the past there was an attempt to protect the plants with a wooden fence.
