How to get there: A tarmac road goes down to Biodola from the Capannone area on the main Procchio road.
This is probably Portoferraio's most famous beach. The view from the main road in the Capannone area is already and invitation to go down for a dip in the waters of this evocative bay. It is more than 500 m long and has fine quartz and mica sand, so children can enjoy playing there with a bucket and spade. The sea is shallow resulting in this beach being very popular with families, but it is also used by young people who believe it to be one of the most fashionable on the island. There are many hotels and residences, bathing facilities, and there is pedal boat hire: during calm summer days this simple method is an ideal way to discover the beautiful coast around about. The unusual name seems to drive from the local name for a bulrush plant which once grew in abundance on the dunes at the back of the beach and was used to make chairs.
