This is Elba's second longest beach with almost 1,200 metres of sandy shore. It faces south, and is on the wide Lacona Gulf, with the Fonza peninsula to the west and the long thin Stella Cape promontory to the east. One of the most popular beaches on Elba, loved by families and children, who can play in the sand and in the shallow water. Lacona gets its fame from the fine golden sand, from its southerly position and from its natural landscape. The large beach started to be used in the seventies by small groups of tourists, who set up there tents among the many sheltered dunes. The birth of organised camp sites near the beach consolidated this camping tradition. Even though it is still beautiful and able to tempt a lot of bathers, much of the naturalness and spontaneity it once had as, unfortunately, been lost. Today, in fact, there only remains a small strip of dunes, where some precious plants still live, it is indeed a unique habitat in all of the Tuscan Archipelago.
