Procchio beach is among the best on Elba. The beach set on the Procchio Gulf has fine mainly quartz sand, creating a golden arc lapped by a emerald sea. The beauty of this bay has transformed the small cross-roads village into a well known seaside resort, it has become one of the most popular on the island, and has had one of the highest rises in tourism. Part of the dunes have become seaside and accommodation complexes, relegating precious plants, for example the beautiful sea lily, to the borders of the beach. The views of the Gulf, overlooked by the green heights of Capanne and Perone mountains, are one of the finest on the Island. It is a delight to dip into the limpid waters. There are two beaches, the Procchio beach in the south-west and the Campo all'Aia one towards the north-east, but there is no real division between the two. The Guardiola building closes this evocative bay. Here, more than two thousand years ago, the Etruscans worked minerals to produce iron and one can still find spongy black iron slag. The Procchio seabed also hides the hull of a Roman boat and part of its precious cargo.
